A sculptural balance and a print poster that comes alive under a phone camera — a piece about wrongful conviction and who gets to define right and wrong.
The brief asked for an object-and-print pairing built around a system of belief. I chose the justice system, and specifically the gap between a legal verdict and the truth — using UK wrongful-conviction figures as the anchor for the piece.
I modelled and built a physical scale — an anchor object balancing "right" against "wrong" — then designed a companion poster around a four-point compass version of the same motif, headlined "Does the system define us, or do we define ourselves?" and annotated with real arrest and wrongful-conviction statistics. Scanning the poster's QR code triggers an AR overlay: a rendered 3D scale animates directly on top of the printed compass, so the object and the print exist in the same space through a phone screen.
The poster only finishes the sentence once you scan it — on paper, it's deliberately half the piece.
